St. Brigid’s National School is a co-educational school under Church of Ireland management. It is a small, friendly and happy school with under 100 pupils who come from a wide range of socio-economic and cultural backgrounds.
The ethos of our school is borne out by the input and co-operation of the inter-linked groups: the Board of Management, the parents, the teachers and the children themselves. Our relatively small school is bustling with activity and works like a large family, so it is a happy community. Individuality and independence are encouraged and as the children grow older they are expected to take on certain responsibilities.
It is our school’s philosophy to provide a centre of life-learning for our pupils: a safe happy school where they will receive a well-balanced and rounded education, catering for their social, spiritual, religious, physical, creative, intellectual, emotional and moral needs. We recognise that each child is a unique individual. Our school promotes fairness, respect and equality, allows the children to express themselves, teaches them communication skills, while maintaining good manners and helping them to develop healthy friendships, relationships and confidence.
Parental involvement is encouraged and valued. We receive great support in many ways from parents, especially from the Parents’ Association.
St. Brigid’s National School campus is situated in beautiful grounds beside St. Brigid’s Church and Rectory. We are very fortunate to have a large playground and grass area, both of which are utilized at break times. In addition to the four standard classrooms, there is a large General Purpose room that is used for assembly, music, physical education, guest speakers and other special events, and a suite of smaller rooms for computers, language and maths teaching and learning support work.
Adjacent to the school, on the same site, the school has privileged access to a large Parish centre for both school based and extra curricular activities
The school opens at 8.40am to receive children and the formal school day begins with General Assembly at 9.00am.
Junior Infants, Senior Infants and First class finish school at 1.20pm. All other classes finish at 2.20pm.
Extra Curricular Activities
In conjunction with the Curriculum, the children enjoy school outings, field trips, guest speakers and workshops.
In addition, the school has an active and enthusaistic Parents’ Association which offers a wide range of extra curricular activities, including hockey, swimming, playball, garden club and drama. Read the PA newsletters for a taste of what happens in St Brigid’s during and after school.
