St. Brigid’s Church of Ireland National School
Welcome to our School Year
St. Brigid’s Church of Ireland National School is a co-educational school under Church of Ireland Management and is situated in beautiful surroundings on Merville Road, beside St. Brigid’s Church, in the suburban area of Stillorgan, Co. Dublin.
Ethos.
St. Brigid’s National School is a co-educational national school under the patronage of the Church of Ireland Archbishop of Dublin and subject to the rules and regulations of the Department of Education and science.
St. Brigid’s National School is a Church of Ireland School and, accordingly, the traditions and teaching of our church informs the position taken in regard to moral issues, which may arise in the teaching of secular subjects. The work of the school is conducted in the atmosphere of tolerance and respect for religious differences.
The Board of Management and the staff seek to create a Christian ethos and approach within the school. Pupils are expected to take part in the whole life of the school, including Religious Education. These classes are based on the curriculum for religious education devised by the Board of Education of the General Synod of the Church of Ireland. There is a very close link between our school and St. Brigid’s Church. The pupils attend a Church service every Friday morning and there are some special church services during the academic year.
The school is a community where moral values such as honesty, truthfulness, justice, fairness, sensitivity to others and civic responsibility are fostered and developed. All pupils are equally respected and valued. Pupils experience and share a sense of caring and belonging. They are treated fairly and their spiritual, moral and religious development is encouraged, as is their intellectual, social and academic development.
Our Philosophy.
Our school’s philosophy is:
- To provide a centre of life–learning for our pupils.
- To provide a safe and happy school where the pupils will receive a well balanced and rounded education,
- To cater for the social, spiritual, religious, physical, creative, intellectual, emotional and moral needs of the pupils,
- To recognize that each child is a unique individual and to try and develop their potential,
- To promote fairness, respect and equality among the pupils,
- To allow each pupil to express themselves and develop good communication skills,
- To teach the pupil good manners and confidence,
- To help the pupils to develop healthy friendships and relationships,
- To create a spirit of happiness and co-operation among all those who work for, or on behalf of St. Brigid’s National school.
